The Museum of Contemporary Art (Muzej Suvremene Umjetnosto Zagreb) houses some of the most prominent pieces of Croatian Art. The relatively new museum offers exhibitions, workshops, film screenings and theatre performances. The building features a multimedia hall, library, workshop area, museum shop, café, restaurant and spaces for visiting artists and curators.

MSU manages several collections – paintings, sculptures, drawings, graphics, posters, photography, film, video, media art and several private collections by Croatian artists and collectors, like the Tošo Dabac archive. This contains negatives, enlargements, photography equipment, Dabac's library and a collection of newspaper clippings, all located at the former studio of the legendary Zagreb photographer. Apart from its artistic value, this archive has an exceptional documentary significance as a testimony to the history of Zagreb and Croatia. Tošo Dabac's photographic oeuvre has been preserved in its entirety and encompasses a broad spectrum of themes: from art photography, portraits and photographs of urban life to landscapes and folk traditions.

The photography collection mainly exists of photographs made after 1950. However, the collection has recently been expanded to include photographs made in the 1920s and 1930s, for instance the work of the Croatian photographer Ivana (Koka) Tomljenović Meller (student of the Bauhaus in Dessau).

The 1950s and 1960s are represented in the documentary photography of Mladen Grčević, a large collection of documentary and art photographs by Milan Pavić, Ante and Zvonimir Brkan, and the early experiments of Zvonimir Malus.
