WassinkLundgren
Tokyo Tokyo

Tokyo Tokyo consists of a series of diptychs in which the mythical ‘decisive moment’ of traditional photography is lampooned. In their projects, WassinkLundgren playfully turns the unwritten rules of the photography upside down. But behind the joke is always a serious attempt to expand both the artistic as well as the social significance of their medium. (Frits Gierstberg – Dutch Photo Museum, Rotterdam)

The pictures were taken between 2009 and 2010 during their first visits to Tokyo. For weeks on end they walked through the different neighborhoods, exploring a city that somehow felt familiar already. The book Tokyo Tokyo is the outcome of their wanderings, a double gaze at the people and places they encountered in split seconds.
