The CGAI opened in 1991, setting various goals in the audiovisual and photography field:
To recover, catalogue, care and diffuse the productions and works of the Galician audiovisual and photographic heritage.
To program screenings, exhibitions, lectures, publications, etc. in order to provide a wider knowledge of the image arts.
To collaborate, with the former aims, inside and outside Galicia.
To participate in the promotion of Galician audiovisual works in markets, fairs and festivals.

The Centro Galego de Artes da Imaxe organises courses and seminars on different aspects of the audiovisual world by renowned specialists in practice, theory, film history, photography, video, television or new technologies.

The library of the CGAI is specialised in cinema, photography and audiovisual communication. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday (free).

It’s possible to view a big number of audiovisual productions online: telefilms, short films, video creation, documentary, restored films.
