Las Palmas is an inspiring industrial location on Wilhelminapier, one of the most characteristic places of Rotterdam. Tens of thousands of Europeans departed from this peer on the Holland-America line to a new world. The area smells of harbour and breathes the spirit of pioneers.

Las Palmas is the buildig that used to house the workshops of the Holland-America line, designed in 1953 by the famous architects Van den Broek and Bakema. After the Holland-America Line moved to the United States, the building lost its original function and more and more cultural pioneers started using it.

In 2006 architect Benthem Crouwel redesigned the building to the cultural warhouse it now is. It is an industrial space of more than 1250 m2 suitable for congresses, fairs, presentations, events, dinners, exhibitions and concerts.
Las Palmas is surrounded by icons of modern achitecture - buildings of amongst others Rem Koolhaas and Alvar Siza - but also by one of the great symbols of the old days: Hotel New York .

Las Palmas houses three large non profit culturural initiatives: Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam, and the SKVR Beeldfabriek (image factory) that provides all kinds of courses in new media and photography. Another part of the building is reserved for commercial (cultural) companies. Benthem Crouwel built an entire new floor on the roof to house it's own people.
