The Croatian State Archives is Croatia’s central archival institution. It performs archival services for historical and current records created by the state and public institutions as well as corporations, families and individuals. In order to open Croatia’s national memory to an audience as big as possible, the Croatian State Archives provide access to their documents under equal conditions for all researchers. Researchers seeking to consult the archives can do so by making an appointment. Documents date as far back as the 12th century and cover the entire range of political and royal history.

Part of the Croatian State Archives is the Central Laboratory for Photography, Microphotography and Reprography. The largest part, about 700.000 photographs, is formed by the Photographic Documentation Agency, showing significant Croatian historical events from 1939 till 1990. A range of photographs originating from the first half of the 19th century till today completes the collection.

The archives are available online upon registration and approval.
