Hatje Cantz is one of Germany's best known publishers of art-, design- and photography books. Hatje Cantz started out in the 1945 as a type setting company by Gerd Hatje. After the war it evolved into a literary publishing house and soon after Hatje discovered his interest in the topics that remain at the heart of the firm’s publishing activities today: the visual arts, modern architecture, and international design. In the late seventies Hatje teamed up with his favorite printer: Dr. Cantz'sche Druckerei, then lead by Walter Cantz. For a while both enterprises were led separately while they were working closely together. That changed after Hatje resigned and current managing director Annette Kulenkampff was appointed as program director for both companies. The merger was established in 1999. From there it gradually developed into the publishing house we now know, collaborating with partners like MOMA and a number of successful artists.

Hatje Cantz offers a comprehensive catalogue of documentary photography books .

Only solicited manuscripts or proposals may be send to manager and program director Annette Kulenkampf. She can be reached by email (contact@hatjecantz.de) or through her secretary Xenia Wörle, telephone +49 (0)7114405200. A detailde list of editors is available here .
