Preus Museum is Norway’s national museum of photography. It was established in 1995, when the government bought up the collections of the private Preus Fotomuseum.
The museum is dedicated to the expanded field of photography: it approaches photography within the context of contemporary art and visual culture in a broad sense. The museum aims to apply an interdisciplinary perspective to the history of photography. In the future, the Preus will show photography in conjunction with moving pictures and, digital technologies.
The museumm has a specialist library of international standard and is building up a centre for photo conservation that will offer the highest expertise in the treatment and conservation of photographic materials. In cooperation with the National Library of Norway, the museum is working on its Index of Photographers and Collections.

The Preus collection contains national and international photographs, cameras, and other objects related to photography and its development. The museum consists of three galleries, one presenting the history of photography and two for temporary exhibitions (see program).

Torill Rambjør is director of the museum and Jens Gold can be contacted for questions. He is the photoconservator.
